Higuain misses penalty, gets sent off in reunion to forget vs. Juventus
Gonzalo Higuain was the center of attention against his former club on Sunday, for all the wrong reasons.
The AC Milan striker saw a first-half penalty saved by Wojciech Szczesny and was then sent off in the second stanza as Juventus, powered by goals from Mario Mandzukic and Cristiano Ronaldo, claimed a 2-0 win.
Mandzukic's early header and Ronaldo's simple finish sandwiched Higuain's spurned opportunity from the spot. The Argentine's day went from bad to worse when he was shown a red card for shouting in the face of the referee just minutes after Ronaldo put the contest to bed with his first-ever goal at the San Siro.
The win saw Juve restore its six-point lead over Napoli atop the table. Milan, meanwhile, now sit a point outside the top four.
