Internazionale have been reported for an alleged illegal approach for World Cup Golden Ball winner Luka Modric, according to BBC Sport's Matt Davis.

A FIFA spokesperson confirmed Real Madrid submitted a complaint regarding the nature of Inter's pursuit for the Croatian midfielder, Guardian sport and agencies report. The Italian transfer window closes Friday, making a switch for Modric to Serie A extremely unlikely.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez told Marca earlier this month "the only way Modric leaves is if they pay €750 million," as translated by ESPN's Dermot Corrigan. Marca later claimed Los Blancos would ward off interest in the deep-lying playmaker by offering him a significant bump in salary.

The Champions League holders have already offloaded Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus this summer for €100 million, so the capital club is under more pressure to bring in marquee names rather than lose another in Modric. The veteran joined from Tottenham Hotspur in 2012 and has since hoisted two major domestic cups, along with collecting four Champions League medals and three triumphs apiece in the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

Real Madrid host Getafe on Sunday to begin their 2018-19 La Liga campaign.
