Juventus' Serie A lead over Napoli increased to four points as Gonzalo Higuain and Blaise Matuidi each scored Wednesday to secure a 2-0 victory over Atalanta.

The Bianconeri cashed in on their game in hand after regaining first place on the weekend. They had spent the past 12 weeks chasing Napoli, whose recent slip-ups against Roma and Inter allowed the six-time defending Serie A champion to surge back to the top.

Higuain capped a devastating counter-attack in the first half with a well-placed shot past Atalanta goalkeeper Etrit Berisha. Matuidi then doubled the advantage later in the second period following Gianluca Mancini's dismissal for a second booking.

Massimiliano Allegri's side has now won 12 league matches in a row, scoring 26 goals and conceding just once in that span.

Juventus and Napoli have 10 matches remaining to decide what's been the tightest title race in the top five European leagues. Napoli famously made a "pact" in the summer to stay together and win the city a first Scudetto since 1990.

However, Juventus have made it difficult for its southern rival, keeping 20 clean sheets in 28 matches this season.
