Neuer withdraws from Germany squad with stomach illness
Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer won't feature in Germany's friendly against Italy on Tuesday after returning home with a stomach illness.
Neuer shouldn't miss any time with Bayern Munich, which resumes action on Saturday against Eintracht Frankfurt. One of Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Kevin Trapp, or Bernd Leno will replace the 30-year-old in between the posts for the match at Allianz Arena.
"The World Goalkeeper of the Year is suffering from a stomach illness, and the coaches, after discussion with the team doctors, decided it would be best to continue his recovery at home," read a statement from the DFB.
Midfielder Sami Khedira was also absent from Monday's practice, but he is still expected to captain the Germans against the visiting Italians. Bastian Schweinsteiger, who usually wears the armband for his country, suffered a knee injury in training last week.
