It was a night to forget for Lionel Messi, as the Barcelona star suffered a groin injury during Argentina's 3-1 loss to Venezuela.

Messi, who missed the South American side's last six matches due to a self-imposed exile, managed to play the entire match. But the team announced after the loss that Messi picked up an injury which will force him to miss Tuesday's friendly against Morocco.

His absence is being described as a precaution, as Messi is believed to have aggravated a previous injury, according to BBC Sport.

It's likely he will be assessed in the coming days by Barcelona's medical team to discover the extent of his injury.

The Catalan side prepares to maintain its place atop the La Liga standings with matches against Espanyol, Villarreal, and Atletico Madrid on the horizon. Barcelona will also take on Manchester United in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal clash on April 10.

Argentina also revealed that Atlanta United midfielder Gonzalo "Pity" Martinez has been ruled out of the Morocco match after injuring his hamstring.
