Chelsea may wander into Italy or France during their ongoing search for a new No. 9.

The Blues have reportedly inquired to both AC Milan and Juventus about Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain, who's currently on a season-long loan at the former from the latter, according to The Telegraph's Matt Law.

Chelsea are also believed to be keeping tabs on Lyon captain Nabil Fekir, who nearly joined Liverpool over the summer. The Ligue 1 club agreed to a deal to sell the French forward to the Reds in June, though the move infamously fell through amid reported concerns over Fekir's medical exams.

To land Higuain for the second half of the campaign, Chelsea would need to strike an accord with both Italian sides. While negotiations with Juventus shouldn't prove too difficult - the Serie A champions offloaded the striker in order to facilitate Cristiano Ronaldo's €100-million arrival from Real Madrid - Law notes the Londoners would consider offering out-of-favor Alvaro Morata in exchange to tempt the Rossoneri.

It's believed Chelsea are also interested in Bournemouth frontman Callum Wilson and Leicester City stalwart Jamie Vardy, Law adds.

After scoring 23 goals in all competitions last season for Juventus, Higuain began his Milan tenure in respectable form, netting five times in his first seven league matches. The 31-year-old has cooled considerably since, however, scoring his last goal on Oct. 28, though his familiarity with former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri could spark his goalscoring exploits again.

Fekir could provide Chelsea with more flexibility in attack, even if he's not a traditional out-and-out striker. The 25-year-old attacking midfielder, who can also play out wide, has scored six goals combined this season between Ligue 1 and the Champions League.
