No place for Renard and Le Sommer in France squad for Women's Euros
France will be without former captain Wendie Renard, striker Eugenie Le Sommer and midfielder Kenza Dali at this summer's Euros after coach Laurent Bonadei opted on Thursday to leave them out of his squad.
The absence of the veteran trio, who are all in their thirties and have 444 caps between them, was evidence of Bonadei's desire to refresh the team as they chase their first major title.
None of them had been in the squad for last week's Nations League matches against Switzerland and Iceland.
"These are tough choices. They're great players and it was complicated for me," said Bonadei as he announced the team on TF1.
Strikers Delphine Cascarino and Kadidiatou Diani, as well as defender Maelle Lakrar, who had to leave last week's Nations League squad, were included in the 23 named for the trip to Switzerland.
With six wins from six Nations League matches, France are unbeaten in 2025 although they are outsiders for the Euros.
"That doesn't stop us from being ambitious," said Bonadei. "We're going to play to win every match and to make France proud of this team."
France continue their Euro preparations with warm-ups against Belgium and Brazil before kicking off their European Championship on July 5 against England in Zurich.
