Arsenal are hoping further schooling in Ligue 1 will prepare William Saliba for life in Mikel Arteta's backline.

The 19-year-old, who cost the Gunners around £27 million in July 2019, has moved on loan to Nice until the end of the 2020-21 campaign. The French side will cover the defender's wages, according to The Guardian's Nick Ames.

Saliba was left out of Arteta's Premier League and Europa League squads for this term, and he's only appeared for the club's under-23 team. After joining Arsenal on permanent terms, he remained at Saint-Etienne for the 2019-20 season, but Saliba was restricted to 12 league appearances due to injury.

Rob Holding, Gabriel Magalhaes, Pablo Mari, David Luiz, and Shkodran Mustafi are currently ahead of Saliba in Arteta's pecking order at center-back.
