A 64-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter by an unlawful act in relation to the death of Emiliano Sala, police said Wednesday, according to the Press Association.

The late Cardiff City forward was killed when the plane carrying him from Nantes to Wales lost contact with air traffic control, crashing into the English Channel north of Guernsey on Jan. 21. He was 28 years old and had just completed a transfer to the Welsh club.

His body was recovered Feb. 6 after an extensive private search. The body of David Ibbotson, the pilot of the Piper Malibu aircraft, has not been found.

Dorset police said the man arrested Wednesday is from North Yorkshire.

"He is assisting with our inquiries and has been released from custody under investigation," said Detective Inspector Simon Huxter of Dorset police's major crime investigation team.

Huxter added: "As is standard practice, we will not be releasing any further information as to the identity of the individual who has been arrested unless that person is charged to appear in court."
