Mario Balotelli has joined Marseille for the remainder of the season, the club announced Wednesday.

Balotelli's signing will cost Marseille €3 million, according to ESPN FC's Julien Laurens. The striker's six-month contract reportedly does not include an offer to stay on next season.

Shortly after news broke of Balotelli's arrival in Marseille, Nice revealed his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

The club paid tribute to Balotelli, who joined the French Riveria side from Liverpool in 2016, by describing his departure as "the end of a beautiful story."

"While today officially marks the end of their collaboration, OGC Nice would like to thank Mario Balotelli for the last two and a half seasons," a statement on the club's website read. "Warmly welcomed by the club and its supporters, the center forward didn't just live up to the expectations placed in him, he exceeded them. The 43 goals he scored for Les Rouge et Noir were instrumental in the club's results during the past two campaigns."

Nice added that while they had no regrets signing Balotelli to another contract despite rampant transfer rumors, it was time to part ways.

"Now, as it's time to say goodbye, and Mario has chosen his future destination, OGC Nice remembers all the good times, the spectacular goals, the smiles, and collective joy of the time spent with its now ex-No.9," the statement continued.

"Filled with these wonderful memories, the club sincerely wishes Mario every future success and hopes he continues to reach his goals."

The 28-year-old will have a chance to suit up for his new club Friday when Marseille host Lille at the Stade Velodrome.
