Diego Simeone's touchline ban has been extended by a further three European games after he was found guilty of insulting a match official in the first leg of Atletico Madrid's Europa League semi-final against Arsenal.

The Argentinian will therefore watch his side's May 16 final against Marseille from the stands of the Parc Olympique Lyonnais.

Simeone was banished from the technical area by referee Clement Turpin for fiercely protesting Sime Vrsaljko's second yellow card little over nine minutes into the opening tussle. Despite his subsequent touchline ban from the return fixture at the Wanda Metropolitano, Atletico Madrid carved out a 1-0 win in the Spanish capital to defeat Arsenal 2-1 on aggregate.

UEFA has chosen to severely reprimand Simeone for his actions in the first leg, meaning that he will miss the opening two matches of next season's European excursion - potentially during the Champions League group stages. Overall, the punishment is for four matches, but one was counted in the second leg with Arsenal. Simeone was also fined €10,000.
