Max Verstappen: Claims Italian Grand Prix Pole

Red Bull driver Verstappen pulled another lap out of the bag to claim pole position for the Italian Grand Prix, pipping McLaren rivals Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri in an incredibly close Qualifying session at Monza, Formula1.com reports.

Analysis:

It would end up being the usual suspects of McLaren, Red Bull, Ferrari and Mercedes mixing it up in Q3 for pole position Saturday. Norris would appear to have a grasp of P1 in the closing seconds with a record lap of the Monza circuit. However, the celebration in the McLaren paddock would be short lived as Verstappen would post the final flying lap seconds later and bump Norris from P1 with his own record lap of the Monza track. It was the Red Bull star's fifth pole of the season and 45th-career pole position.
