Carlos Sainz Jr: Las Vegas Practice Incident

The opening practice session for the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend was brought to an early end after the red flags were thrown following a stoppage for Sainz, Formula1.com reports.

Analysis:

Less than 10 minutes into the opening hour-long session, Sainz would find an unsecured drain cover on the Las Vegas strip. The jolt and impact to the car were loud and noticeable. The Ferrari would come to an immediate stop and shutdown. FIA would red-flag and end the session due to the track hazard and Sainz would see his Ferrari towed back to the garage area for repairs.
