George Russell: Leads FP1 in Hungary
Russell set the pace in a rain-affected opening hour of running in Budapest, with the Briton topping the timesheets ahead of the McLaren of Oscar Piastri and the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll, Formula1.com reports.
Analysis:
The session would be red-flagged less than 5 minutes in for a Sergio Perez crash. However, once the teams got back up and rolling after the brief delay, rain would begin to fall on the Hungaroring. Russell would bolt on intermediate tyres, as did the rest of the field and lap times would begin to fall. He would post a lap of 1:38.795 of the Hungarian circuit that would edge Oscar Piastri by three-tenths. Russell will look to hold onto this speed and hopefully improve in session 2 if weather permits.
