Thompson, Gilgeous-Alexander among those out of Canada's FIBA squad

Canada Basketball announced its 19-man roster on Monday for training camp in Toronto prior to the FIBA World Cup, and several significant NBA players have dropped out since the release of the 29-man invite list in July.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Tristan Thompson, Dwight Powell, Dillon Brooks, Trey Lyles, Brandon Clarke, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, and Nik Stauskas have all bowed out. Meanwhile, Jamal Murray and RJ Barrett will attend camp, but they won't play in the World Cup in China due to injury.

The national team opens exhibition play in Toronto on Wednesday against Nigeria, with the Raptors' Nick Nurse as its head coach. The roster will be cut to 12 players before the team represents Canada at the tournament for the first time since 2010.
