Report: Lowry underwent procedure to repair thumb tendon

Toronto Raptors point guard Kyle Lowry underwent a procedure to repair an injury to the tendon in his left thumb, sources told Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN. He hopes to be available for USA Basketball's training camp, and the FIBA World Cup, later this summer.

The United States' training camp opens Aug. 5 in Las Vegas. The team will play its first World Cup contest Sept. 1 against the Czech Republic.

Exactly when Lowry had the procedure isn't specified. He injured his thumb in Game 7 of the second round of the NBA playoffs against the Philadelphia 76ers and played with the ailment in the 12 games that followed against the Milwaukee Bucks and Golden State Warriors.

As a result of the injury, Lowry was frequently seen with a blue oven mitt-like compression glove on his left hand during the remainder of the postseason. He said prior to the start of the NBA Finals that he couldn't feel his thumb during games.

Despite the issue, Lowry still put in an impressive display against Golden State. The 33-year-old averaged 16.2 points, 7.2 assists, and 1.7 steals while shooting 36.8 percent from beyond the arc in The Finals to help the Raptors win their first NBA championship.
