England manager Gareth Southgate confirmed that Eric Dier suffered a hip injury which will force him to miss the team's next Euro 2020 qualifier against Montenegro.

The Tottenham midfielder had to be replaced by Ross Barkley after suffering the injury in the 17th minute of England's 5-0 victory over the Czech Republic at Wembley Stadium on Friday.

Southgate is not expected to add a replacement for the injured midfielder, according to Ian Dennis of BBC Sport.

"I think he will go back to his club," Southgate said, according to Alex Smith of The Mirror. "Hopefully not too serious, bit of a muscular injury but he won't be right for our second game."

An encounter with league leaders Liverpool awaits Spurs when the international break concludes. Tottenham currently sit in third place with a one-point advantage over north London rivals Arsenal.

Meanwhile, England will attempt to maintain its perfect start to its qualifying campaign when it visits Montenegro on Tuesday. Montenegro secured a 1-1 draw during itsr visit to Bulgaria on Friday.
