Belgium received a devastating blow to its Euro 2016 campaign with news that Jan Vertonghen will miss the rest of the competition after damaging his ankle during a training session.
The injury rules him out of Friday's quarter-final match against Wales and could see Vertonghen miss six-to-eight weeks, national team manager Marc Wilmots revealed to reporters Thursday.
His loss could also impact Tottenham and the north London side's preparations ahead of the Premier League season. Two months out could force Vertonghen to miss the team's three matches against Everton, Crystal Palace, and Liverpool in August.
The injury could force Wilmots to deploy young defenders Jason Denayer and Jordan Lukaku at the back to compensate for the absence of Vertonghen and Thomas Vermaelen, who will miss the contest through suspension.
