Ukraine 1st team eliminated from Euro 2016
The first goalless game at Euro 2016 produced a result after all.
By virtue of Germany and Poland's 0-0 draw Thursday at the Stade de France, Ukraine is the first team mathematically eliminated from the tournament. The Eastern European nation will finish no higher than fourth in Group C after falling to Northern Ireland earlier in the day.
Ukraine has yet to score a goal in France, underscoring the lack of offence on a team that used to rely on the brilliance of Andriy Shevchenko. Neither Andriy Yarmolenko nor Yevhen Konoplyanka - Ukraine's two standout players - have made any sort of impact.
A pair of 2-0 losses to Germany and Northern Ireland over the past week spelled the end for Ukraine, which twice conceded goals past the 90th minute.
Mykhaylo Fomenko's side will finish its Euro adventure next Tuesday against Poland.
