Umar Sadiq's second-half goal helped Valencia win 1-0 at Athletic Bilbao in La Liga on Sunday and climb into mid-table, while winger Nico Williams was taken off hurt.
Los Che are not safe yet but moved five points clear of the drop zone with three matches remaining.
Athletic winger Williams limped off in the first half with an injury problem, with Spain anxiously waiting on the results ahead of this summer's World Cup.
Williams has struggled with fitness issues this season but scored a brace last weekend against Alaves and looked to be getting back to his best.
Later on Sunday, La Liga leaders Barcelona host Real Madrid, aiming to clinch back-to-back Spanish titles, just needing to avoid defeat to do so.
