Hermoso recalled to Spain squad after year in the cold
Spain's all-time leading scorer Jenni Hermoso was recalled to the national team squad for the first time in a year by new coach Sonia Bermudez on Friday.
The 35-year-old played her last international in October last year before being axed by then coach Montse Tome but now features in Bermudez's first squad which will play the Nations League two-legged semi-final against Sweden next week.
Hermoso was left out of the squad that finished as runners-up at Euro 2025, losing on penalties to England in Basel in July.
The Tigres forward was the victim of a forced kiss by former Spanish football federation president Luis Rubiales on the field after Spain's victory over England in the 2023 World Cup final.
Rubiales resigned weeks later and was convicted of sexual assault in 2025.
Barcelona defender Mapi Leon also returns, three years after she and 14 teammates protested against the coaching methods of former boss Jorge Vilda.
Leon boycotted the 2023 World Cup and was not part of the set-up under Vilda's successor Tome.
