Elche promoted back to La Liga
Elche sealed promotion to La Liga when they locked up second place in the second division with a 4-0 victory at Deportivo de la Coruna on Sunday on the last day of the regular season.
Levante, who had secured promotion a week earlier, won 1-0 at home to Eibar to clinch the title, with 79 points from 42 matches, two more than Elche.
Elche, from the southeast of Spain, were last promoted in 2020, spent three seasons in the top flight and were relegated in 2023.
The final round of the regular season did not change the top of the table as all of the top six won. The teams from third to sixth -- Oviedo, Mirandes, Almeria and Racing Santander -- start their playoffs for the last promotion slot on June 7.
The three top-flight teams relegated in the recently completed Liga season were Leganes, Las Palmas and Valladolid.
