Villarreal rout Mallorca to close in on La Liga top 4

Villarreal thumped Mallorca 4-0 on Monday to keep the pressure on the top four in La Liga.

Marcelino Garcia Toral's side, fifth, cut the gap on Barcelona and Athletic Bilbao, third and fourth respectively, down to six points.

The Yellow Submarine hit four goals in an extraordinary eight-minute spell in the first half to claim victory over the team one place beneath them.

Logan Costa opened the scoring after 20 minutes with a header from a corner, with Alex Baena netting the second four minutes later after a rapid counter-attack.

Dani Parejo struck the third after 26 minutes and Yeremy Pino completed the scoring in the 28th minute with a volley.
