Zinedine Zidane isn't planning on jumping ship anytime soon.

The Frenchman vowed to stay on as Real Madrid's manager despite the Spanish club's fading hopes of progressing out of the Champions League group stage after Tuesday's surprise loss to Shakhtar Donetsk.

"I am not going to resign, not at all," Zidane told reporters, according to BBC Sport's Harry Poole.

"We are always going to have difficult moments, and we are on a bad run, but we need to keep going," added the Frenchman, whose side suffered a shock 2-1 defeat by Alaves in La Liga on Saturday.

"I have the strength needed to turn the situation around and I am going to give everything to do that. So are the players."

Losing to Shakhtar - Real Madrid's second in the tournament - leaves Los Blancos in third behind the Ukrainian club in Group B with one match to play.

Real Madrid have reached the knockout phase of the competition a record 23 times in a row, but Zidane's men must now beat Borussia Monchengladbach next week to guarantee progression and keep the streak alive.

The 13-time European champions have also underachieved domestically after a slow start in La Liga, where they sit fourth with 17 points from 10 matches.
