Report: Real Madrid refuse offer to play at Atletico's stadium
Real Madrid will reject an invitation from rivals Atletico Madrid to play their remaining home matches at the Wanda Metropolitano, sources told Rodrigo Faez and Alex Kirkland of ESPN FC.
Instead, Los Blancos will apparently go ahead with plans to use the Alfredo di Stefano Stadium, located in Valdebebas at their training base, to host their six remaining home fixtures.
Real Madrid are reportedly appreciative of Atletico's offer and continue to value their relationship with Los Rojiblancos, Faez and Kirkland added.
Real Madrid decided to accelerate renovation work to the Bernabeu after the season was postponed in March due to the coronavirus, assuming that matches would be played behind closed doors if the season resumed.
But after it was revealed that supporters may be allowed to attend matches before the end of the Spanish campaign, which resumes Thursday, Atletico Madrid president Enrique Cerezo offered to lend the 67,000-seat stadium to his team's biggest rivals.
"We would lend Madrid use of the Wanda - no one should have any doubts about that," Cerezo said.
"If, in the final stages of the season, we're able to play with fans, we're at Madrid's disposal if they want to play at our stadium."
Real Madrid will attempt to close the gap on Barcelona when they restart their season against Eibar on Sunday, while Atletico face Athletic Bilbao on the same day.
