Real Madrid reach UCL knockout stage for record 23rd straight year

Real Madrid made history on Tuesday without even needing to kick a ball.

Before their match against Paris Saint-Germain began, Los Blancos set a new Champions League record by reaching the knockout stage for the 23rd consecutive year.

That milestone came as a result of Club Brugge drawing 1-1 against Galatasaray in Group A's early match, which mathematically vaulted Zinedine Zidane's men into the next phase.

Real, already assured of their spot in the next round, came away with a 2-2 draw against PSG later in the day. That result ensured the French side topped Group A, with Zinedine Zidane's men slotting into second place.

Los Blancos will visit Club Brugge for their last match of the opening stage.
