Espanyol appoint David Gallego as Rubi's successor

David Gallego has been promoted to the Espanyol helm once again.

Following the departure of Rubi to Real Betis, the Barcelona outfit appointed Gallego as head coach of the first team Thursday. He managed the club's B team during the 2018-19 campaign, and previously oversaw Espanyol for around a month after Quique Sanchez Flores was sacked in April 2018.

Espanyol finished seventh in La Liga last season, allowing the four-time Copa del Rey winners to enter the 2019-20 Europa League's qualification phase.
