Joaquin Caparros is leaving his role as Sevilla's first-team coach but will remain with the team next season in "an important role in the club's sporting management," the club confirmed Wednesday.

The veteran manager is a popular figure at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, but he revealed in April that he's suffering from chronic leukemia.

Caparros succeeded Pablo Machin for his third stint overseeing Sevilla's first team in March. The sporting director position he vacated to make that move was filled by Monchi just a few days later.

Caparros, who's managed 510 matches in La Liga, is now set to work in the department led by Monchi.

Both of Seville's leading clubs are searching for new head coaches. Quique Setien left Sevilla's rivals Real Betis on Sunday following their 2-0 win at Real Madrid to conclude the league campaign.
