Real Madrid captured the FIFA Club World Cup after a 1-0 win over Brazilian outfit Gremio, and star man Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored the goal to separate the two teams, had no problem singing the praises of his club at the end of the match.

"It was impressive," Ronaldo told TV Espana, as quoted by ESPN FC's Dermot Corrigan. "It was a trophy we wanted to win. We knew we were playing a good team. Madrid had never won five trophies in one year, Zidane told us this, so we put in the effort, played a good game, and deserved to win."

Real Madrid adds this latest trophy to its ever-growing tally of silverware in 2017, an impressive list consisting of the Champions League, La Liga, UEFA Super Cup, and Supercopa de Espana. With a new club record of five trophies in a calendar year to celebrate, Ronaldo and his team will now focus on next week's El Clasico against Barcelona.

The Portuguese icon assuaged any fears he might miss the heavyweight bout, which arose after he was hit by a studs-up challenge early in Saturday's final.

"I felt an issue in my calf in the second half, but I kept playing," Ronaldo said. "For sure on Saturday I will be fine."
