The Australian has yet to make an appearance with the Blues this season, and at 42 years old was clearly looking for an opportunity to see the pitch in what are likely the final years of his career.
As a result of this move, Chelsea will recall goalkeeper Jamal Blackman from his loan spell with Middlesbrough to ensure they still have three 'keepers in the squad.
