Where in the world in Hatem Ben Arfa?

French daily l'Equipe recently published a report stating that Ben Arfa, who signed with Hull City on loan from Newcastle on the final day of the summer transfer window, had returned to his home country of France and would not return to Steve Bruce's side as he searched for a new club.

As if that weren't intriguing enough, on Monday, Bruce admitted that Ben Arfa is likely done at the KC Stadium and added that he doesn't even know the attacking midfielder's current whereabouts.

"Sometimes transfers work out and sometimes they don't," Bruce said, according to The Times. "And it's fair to say that with Ben Arfa I can't see there being a future. Unfortunately he wants to do things his way, which is fair enough. So unless he changes, then I treat him like every other player.

"But there has been no fallout - he has been omitted from the squad because when you are up against it, then I believe you need to show a bit of resilience and unfortunately Hatem sees it differently. It's a shame. Listen, we were excited to get him on deadline day and in three or four months it hasn't quite happened. These things happen."

Bruce added: "He is not AWOL. He could be in Paris, though. I've no idea where he is. He could be in Hull for all I know."

Ben Arfa arrived at Hull with a reputation of being a cancer within Newcastle's dressing room, where he fell out with manager Alan Pardew and had been sent to train with the team's development squad in July, a move that led to a mutiny of sorts from Newcastle supporters.

Through eight appearances with Hull this season, he has failed to register any goals or assists.
