Didier Drogba announced his retirement from international football Friday after a 12-year career and captaining the Ivory Coast since 2006.

Drogba's last match with Les Elephants was at this year's FIFA World Cup in Brazil when his side was knocked out in the group stage after a 2-1 loss to Greece. It was Drogba's third World Cup with his nation after making his debut in 2002.
He earned 104 caps and is the country's all-time leading scorer with 65 goals.
