Pardew not confident Cabaye will stay at Newcastle

Alan Pardew is not confident Yohan Cabaye will be with Newcastle when the winter transfer window closes on Friday night.

On Sunday, the Magpies rejected a £14 million bid from PSG, while speculation ran rampant regarding a possible Manchester United overture for the creative Frenchman.

With clubs of that stature gunning for Cabaye, Pardew seems to realize the writing is on the wall. To say he's not confident may be an understatement.

"You are talking to someone who lost Andy Carroll with eight hours to go, so am I confident?," Pardew said, according to Sky Sports

"No, I'm not confident, and I don't think any team not in a Champions League position or fighting for a Champions League position could be."

PSG's initial bid was considered egregiously low, with Newcastle seeking at least £20 million for the 28-year-old.

"We know we have got a club interested in Cabaye, a very wealthy club and a powerful club, and we are conscious of that," Pardew sighed.

"We are doing our best to protect Newcastle."
