Manchester City have rejected claims they're ready to pay £160 million to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur, The Telegraph's James Ducker reports.

Spurs reportedly turned down City's opening £100-million bid in June.

On Thursday, The Sun's Clemmie Moodie reported City had agreed to fork over £160 million for Kane and hand him a contract worth £400,000 a week.

While the Premier League champions remain interested in signing the Golden Boot winner, they're "adamant" they'd never pay that much, according to Ducker.

Portuguese defender Ruben Dias remains City's record signing at £65.2 million after joining from Benfica last summer.

Kane's contract with Spurs runs until June 2024, but he indicated in May he'd like to have an "honest "conversation" with club chairman Daniel Levy about his future.

"I think it's definitely a conversation to be had with the club," Kane told Gary Neville on his podcast, The Overlap. "I want to be playing in the biggest games, the biggest moments.

"Like, this season, I'm there watching the Champions League, watching the English teams in there doing amazing. They are the games that I want to be involved in. I want to be in them games."

Tottenham failed to reach the Champions League despite Kane's Premier League-best 23 goals and 14 assists.

However, newly appointed manager Nuno Espirito Santo is certain Kane will stay with the north London side.

"Harry is our player. That is period. No need to talk about anything else," the Portuguese boss said last week. "Now is the moment for Harry to recover his energy, and when Harry comes again, we will have time to speak and have good conversations."
