Report: Inter to sign United's Young for €1.5M fee

Inter reached an agreement with Manchester United on Thursday to sign Ashley Young for €1.5 million, according to the BBC's Simon Stone, which is set to bring an end to the player's eight-and-a-half-year stay at Old Trafford.

The fee will reportedly rise if Inter manage to end Juventus' eight-year run and win the Scudetto.

Young, 34, is set to join Inter despite the club's ongoing negotiations for another left-sided player, Leonardo Spinazzola. The Guardian's Fabrizio Romano reported Thursday the Nerazzurri have a deal with Roma to swap winger Matteo Politano for Spinazzola, who can play as a left-back or wing-back.

Though it's unclear where Young fits in Antonio Conte's plans, the move would give the manager a number of choices on the left flank, including Cristiano Biraghi and Kwadwo Asamoah. Young can also play on the right side.

A pending free agent in the summer, Young was free to speak to Inter and other clubs that may have been interested in signing him. He had agreed to a contract with Inter until 2021, according to Sky Sport's Gianluca Di Marzio, but it seemed he'd only move in the summer.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had voiced concern about letting Young leave the club midway through the season earlier in January.

"We can't weaken ourselves," Solskjaer said. "We need to strengthen ourselves if any movement is going to happen."

This is the third time United and Inter have done business in a relatively short span. Last summer, Inter signed Romelu Lukaku from United for a reported €80 million and added Alexis Sanchez on loan. Lukaku leads Conte's side with 18 goals in 25 appearances this season.

Young made 261 appearances with the Red Devils, winning the Premier League in 2012-13, the FA Cup in 2015-16, and both the League Cup and Europa League in 2016-17.
