Shahid Khan: I'd let Chelsea play at Wembley during stadium rebuild

Fulham owner Shahid Khan has said he would have no problem letting Chelsea use Wembley Stadium as a temporary home while Stamford Bridge is under construction ... as long as the Blues pay for their stay.

Khan has made a reported £500-million offer to purchase Wembley from the FA in an effort to best provide his NFL franchise, the Jacksonville Jaguars, with an opportunity to grow their fan base in London. But, with Chelsea looking to leave west London for four years at the end of the 2019-20 season in order to redevelop Stamford Bridge, Khan could represent an obstacle to its search for a temporary home.

However, the business tycoon was open to the prospect of allowing the Blues to use his prospective new stadium should he conclude a deal to take ownership of Wembley.

"Chelsea would be welcome to use it," Khan told the Evening Standard. "Obviously, they would be paying for it, just like Spurs did, but I think it is really important because our goal is to get the usage up and that would be part of it.

“Could it happen for four years? Obviously, you would have to move things but from our viewpoint, we would love that to work.

"The bottom line is we would be doing everything to make that possible because it is good for Chelsea, it is good for English football, and, most importantly, it is good for Wembley. You would have the usage, you would have the revenue, and it is a win-win for everybody."

Fellow London-based side Tottenham came to a similar arrangement with the FA this season, and has used Wembley Stadium as its home field while White Hart Lane is redeveloped.

Khan had previously stated Fulham would not move to Wembley and would continue to play uninterrupted at Craven Cottage, its home since 1896.
