Swansea City's initial attempt to reunite the Ayew brothers failed after West Ham rejected the Welsh side's bid to sign Andre Ayew, according to BBC Sport.

Two years after selling Ayew, Swansea is eager to re-sign the 28-year-old and will reportedly have to exceed its £15.5-million club-record transfer fee which was paid to Atletico Madrid for Borja Baston in 2016.

The Ghanaian international spent one season with the Welsh club, scoring 12 Premier League goals, before he was shipped to the English capital in 2016 when West Ham agreed to pay its own club-record fee reportedly worth £20.5 million.

It's believed West Ham will hold out for a price similar to what was paid to sign Ayew from Swansea, whose failed bid was worth £14 million, according to John Percy and Jason Burt of The Telegraph.

West Ham may be reluctant to part with Ayew during the winter transfer window considering the club is short on attackers with news that Andy Carroll, who was linked with a move to Chelsea last week, could miss a month of action with an ankle injury.

A successful bid would reunite Ayew with his brother, Jordan, for the first time since the two played together in France with Marseille.
