Arsenal may have to call off its pursuit of Bordeaux prodigy Malcom.

Bordeaux is reluctant to part ways with the Brazilian and appears to be ready to reject an approach from Arsenal regardless of the reported €50 million fee that the French could fetch if the 20-year-old is sold.

After Bordeaux president Stephane Martin told French outlet L'Equipe that the club was not expecting winter departures, Nicolas de Tavernost, chairman of the television channel, M6, which is a majority shareholder of the club, provided further confirmation and said that Malcom "won't leave."

However, Malcom's agent Luis Fernando Menezes Garcia added fuel to the rumours of a move to Arsenal by "liking" a comment on Instagram when a follower responded to a picture of the player and asked, "Arsenal player? Like if he is."

Despite Malcom's seven goals this season, Bordeaux has been disappointing after only collecting 23 points from 20 matches for a place outside the top 10.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger refused to be drawn into speculation over the Premier League side's reported interest in Malcom, saying: "He’s a good player, but at the moment nothing is happening."

Arsenal's apparent interest in Malcom is the product of rampant speculation over the future of Alexis Sanchez, who is expected to leave the north London club this month amid speculation that he's set for a move to Manchester United. The Premier League club has long said that Sanchez's transfer will only be possible if a suitable replacement is secured.
