Koln fined, ordered to pay for damages caused by fans at Arsenal clash

UEFA announced Monday that FC Koln has been fined and ordered to pay for the damages caused by its supporters at the Emirates Stadium in London during last month's Europa League match against Arsenal.

The German side was fined €60,000 and also banned from selling tickets to supporters for the next European match away from home - a decision that UEFA has deferred for a two-year probationary period.

The charges stem from violations such as crowd disturbances, setting off fireworks, throwing objects, and various acts of damage.

Koln supporters caused the Sept. 14 fixture to be delayed by an hour when thousands of alleged ticketless supporters caused a disruption outside the Emirates. There were various reports of Koln fans attempting to crash the gates while some supporters also fought with security officials once inside the stadium.

The Bundesliga side had only be granted 3,000 tickets for the encounter, but it's believed there was around 20,000 supporters who turned up.

Arsenal, who went on to win the match 3-1, escaped a fine despite being charged with a minor offence of blocking the stairway in an away supporters sector.
