Report: Liverpool won't move Milner in January despite limited role

Liverpool is not looking to offload James Milner in the January transfer window despite the 31-year-old being limited to just a couple starts in Jurgen Klopp's team this season, Chris Bascombe of the Telegraph reports.

Bascombe reports that Leicester City is the "most active" of numerous clubs interested in his signature, and while RB Leipzig's Naby Keita is set to join the Reds next summer, Klopp still intends on keeping Milner around through to at least the end of this current campaign.

Milner came back under the spotlight in a solid showing against Maribor in the Champions League this week, but is still frustrated over a lack of playing time in league play, Bascombe reports, adding that Klopp has assured Milner further chances will come, even if a starting role is no longer guaranteed.

The now-retired England man proved himself invaluable to Liverpool since he joined the club out of Manchester City in 2015, appearing in 40 or more tilts in each of his first two seasons at Anfield in all competitions. The midfielder was used often at left-back, but Alberto Moreno's form has closed up that spot, too.

Instead, Milner captained the Reds to a 7-0 win over Maribor from midfield in his first 90-minute Champions League performance with the club. Bascombe adds that Milner's situation will be reviewed at the end of the season.
