Lukaku deemed fit for Tuesday's clash with Cyprus

Good news for Red Devils supporters, both Manchester United and Belgium alike, as Romelu Lukaku has overcome an ankle concern and has been ruled fit to play Tuesday against Cyprus.

The towering goal-machine did not feature in the frenetic 4-3 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina on Saturday in Sarajevo, after picking up a knock with United. But he's again set for selection after Belgium boss Roberto Martinez confirmed Tuesday that Lukaku is good to go.

"Romelu Lukaku is fit," Martinez told reporters, courtesy of Kristof Terreur. "We are in touch with Man United’s medical team."

With Belgium's spot at the 2018 World Cup secured, Tuesday's match against Cyprus is an inconsequential one. With United set for an Anfield visit to play Liverpool on Saturday, it would likely frustrate Jose Mourinho if his striker was to see any extended playing time mid-week.

When asked if United's impassioned manager had reached out to his former Premier League counterpart, Martinez offered, "I haven’t received a phone call from Jose Mourinho as yet."

Martinez may fancy waiting by the phone, especially since Lukaku has become a vital component of United's title chase. The 24-year-old has silenced doubters with seven league goals in as many matches, following a blockbuster summer switch from Everton for a reported £75 million, with £15 million in performance related add-ons.
