Former Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich defensive midfielder Xabi Alonso announced Monday his plan to return to football, taking to Instagram to reveal he is looking to step into a role as a manager.

"After 17 years in the game, I have considered the next step in my career," he said in a video posted to his Instagram stories, as quoted by ESPN FC. "I have decided to go into management. Find out soon."

Alonso, now 35, retired back in May, as he helped Bayern Munich secure another Bundesliga title. He has since started working toward his coaching badges. During his playing days, Alonso won four domestic titles and two Champions League trophies with various outfits, as well as two European Championships and a World Cup with Spain.

He's hoping that success, along with experience playing for the likes of Jose Mourinho, Pep Guardiola, and Rafa Benitez, among others, translates onto the touchline. However, Alonso did not yet have concrete details to announce.
