West Ham announced it will auction the shirts worn during Saturday's London derby against Tottenham to help raise money for the victims of the Mexican earthquake.

A 7.1-magnitude earthquake slammed southern Mexico on Tuesday, killing at least 273 people while leaving thousands homeless.

With Los Tri international and Irons striker Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez leading the #YoXMexico initiative alongside Mexico teammate Miguel Layun, West Ham has followed suit with plans to double the proceeds from the auction to help deliver food and supplies to the victims, according to a club statement.

"Seeing the suffering of our compatriots has been very painful," Hernandez said.

"We know that many see us as a source of inspiration, but in this case, what has inspired us is to see millions of Mexicans take to the streets and to lend a hand without asking for anything in return."

The Irons play host to Spurs at the London Stadium on Saturday, and West Ham has already made some shirts available, with Hernandez's No. 17 strip fetching a £2,501 bid.

"Miguel and I are very grateful to have the backing of everyone at West Ham United and all of its supporters at this difficult time for our country," Hernandez added.
