Mourinho warns players of 'roadworks' ahead: 'It's not always motorway'

Manchester United is riding high on confidence, but Jose Mourinho knows that there are speed bumps ahead.

United's 4-0 Premier League victory over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday marked the first time since 1907 that the Red Devils scored four goals in their first two games of the season. Speaking after the match, Mourinho didn't deny that things are going well for the club. However, he acknowledged that it's only a matter of time until there are potholes to be mended.

Eric Bailly, Romelu Lukaku, Paul Pogba, and Anthony Martial all tallied goals in Wales; the latter three also found the back of the net in United's 4-0 win versus West Ham United on the first matchday of the season.

"The word that better describes the team now is confident," Mourinho declared, according to the Guardian's Stuart James. "The team starts the game confident, the team starts the second half confident. The thing that I want to see - but I don't want to see - is the team losing and see the way we emotionally react to it because it's another change, losing and trying to change the result, because in this moment everything is going in our favour. But it's not always motorway. You always find difficult roads and roadworks, and we have to be ready."

When Mourinho was told the statistics about the start of the 20th century, the Special One answered by pointing to last season, when United won its first two fixtures of the season and went on to finish sixth.

Having played just two of 38 games this season, United already possesses 15 percent of its goal tally from the last campaign.
