David De Gea isn't going anywhere this summer, according to Jose Mourinho.

The Manchester United manager ruled out an imminent sale of the Spanish goalkeeper, guaranteeing that De Gea will continue his career at Old Trafford despite reported interest from Real Madrid.

"I can guarantee that he is not going this season," Mourinho told reporters, according to United's website. "My feeling is it will very difficult for him to go. He is a very honest, straight boy."

The Portuguese gaffer did, however, indicate that United was open to the idea of selling De Gea, but appeared to suggest Real Madrid was no longer interested in pursuing the 26-year-old.

"He was contacted for a long time, the club was closed and then we opened. I always have this feeling when a player has a desire to go, then I don't like to stop players because you don't get from them what you expect from them if they want to move and they don't.

"So, we opened it and then they decided to close it. I see him really happy, focused, working better than ever and 100 percent he stays with us."

Renewed interest in De Gea resurfaced shortly after the season, when United reportedly rejected an offer from Real worth £60 million at the end of May.

United was reportedly bracing for another bid, but Mourinho's comments may bring an end to a transfer saga that dominated headlines two summers ago, when missing paperwork saw De Gea's transfer to Real Madrid fall through at the 11th hour of the 2015 transfer deadline.
