Leicester's Mendy 'set on' Bordeaux transfer

Leicester City midfielder Nampalys Mendy appears to be ready for a return to France after proclaiming his eagerness to join Ligue 1 outfit Bordeaux.

Mendy struggled to maintain fitness and was used sparingly during his first season with the Foxes after completing a £13-million transfer from AS Monaco - which was a club-record transfer fee at the time.

Despite signing a four-year contract with the former Premier League champion, Mendy appears to have his heart set on a move back to France after catching wind of Bordeaux's reported interest.

"I heard about the interest of Nantes but neither me nor my adviser have been contacted," Mendy told L'Equipe, as translated by Sky Sports.

"Anyway, since my adviser talked to me about the possibility of joining Bordeaux, I'm set on it.

"I've lost a year in England because of a failed ankle surgery, which unfortunately necessitated a second operation in March. Even though I am not 100 percent yet, I have just returned from an excellent rehabilitation phase.

"And now I have the hope of rallying the Girondins (Bordeaux) fairly quickly. It's even an obsession."

Complications from an ankle injury limited Mendy to just 12 appearances in all competitions last term.
