Leicester City has sold defender Luis Hernandez to Malaga for an undisclosed fee, the Foxes announced Tuesday, with the 27-year-old joining the Spanish outfit on a three-year contract.
Hernandez initially came to Leicester last summer on a four-year deal as a free agent after spending four seasons with Sporting Gijon. He made eight appearances for the Foxes, including four starts in Champions League play.
Used both as a center-back and a right full-back, Hernandez also brought his long-throw ability, a similar skill to that Claudio Ranieri often utilized with Christian Fuchs. That long-throw setup came in handy when Hernandez found Marc Albrighton with the novel assist to craft the Foxes' first-ever Champions League goal.
Hernandez joins a Malaga team in need of defensive reinforcements as the once cash-rich club sits 14th in La Liga.
Despite an early sending away, Leicester still bid him a fond farewell, writing: "The club thanks Luis for his contribution during his time at Leicester City Football Club and wishes him all the very best for the future."
