Bryson: The Open has 'me scratching my head'

Bryson DeChambeau's bomb-and-gouge tactics have been highly successful on the PGA TOUR, but the beefy American has struggled when he tees it up in Europe.

With courses across the pond traditionally offering more of a penalty for missing the fairway, DeChambeau has often found himself in some precarious predicaments.

That was evident at this week's Open Championship, when the World No. 6 dropped the now-infamous "driver sucks" quote following Thursday's opening round.

Following a third-round 72 to sit at 3-over for the tournament, DeChambeau admitted he's struggled thus far to strategize for The Open.

"This is by far the hardest tournament for me to figure out. No doubt about it," he said, according to Daniel Rapoport of Golf Digest. "This one seems to keep me scratching my head."

This is DeChambeau's fourth start in the Open Championship. He's missed the cut twice and logged a 51st-place finish in the three previous appearances, and he sits in 64th heading to Sunday's final round.

The 27-year-old will hope his driver issues are limited to Europe as he travels to Tokyo to compete for the United States in the Olympics at the end of the month.
