4 golfers who need a strong Saturday morning to make Masters cut

Thanks to Thursday morning's thunderstorms causing a three-hour delay at Augusta National, the cut won't be made at the Masters until the completion of Round 2 on Saturday morning.

That means there are a number of big-name players who are set to lose some sleep. The tournament's cutline - the top 50 players plus ties - currently sits at even but is likely to move to 1-under before Friday's afternoon wave completes the second round.

Here are four players who need to finish strong Saturday to ensure they are around for the full weekend at Augusta.

Jordan Spieth

It might seem crazy that Spieth could miss the cut given his history at Augusta National, but his years-long struggles have now made their way to his hallowed ground. Spieth opened the tournament with a birdie but fell off with a 2-over 74 in Round 1. The 2016 champion rebounded over his first 10 holes Friday, making three birdies against one bogey to sit at even par. Spieth will open his day Saturday with the difficult 11th hole before heading to No. 12, where he suffered his greatest Masters collapse. Should he navigate those two holes without a bogey, Spieth should be in good shape to make the weekend with two reachable par 5s remaining in Nos. 13 and 15.

Bryson DeChambeau

The talk of the golfing world heading into the Masters is in very real danger of an early exit. DeChambeau overcame a tough start to his Thursday round to get into the clubhouse at 2-under, but Friday proved to be more of a challenge. The U.S. Open champion walked to the 12th tee at 2-over par after a triple-bogey on No. 3 and four bogeys over his following seven holes. However, DeChambeau delivered a great tee shot on the difficult par 3 and poured in the birdie to get to 1-over for the tournament. While he's currently outside the cut, DeChambeau will begin his Saturday with a 17-footer for eagle on the par-5 13th. Should that drop, he will immediately go from outside the cut to inside the number with room to spare.

Jason Day

Day is another player who's in danger of missing the cut after opening at 2-under. The Aussie got off to a terrible start Friday, recording a bogey and a double-bogey to immediately drop out of contention. He quickly turned that around with three birdies over his next four holes, but he halted any progress by bogeying his eighth and ninth. Unlike Spieth and DeChambeau, Day's remaining holes Saturday are on the front nine. He starts his morning with a five-footer for birdie on No. 2. While that would get him to 1-under for the tournament, the difficult Nos. 4 and 5 have plenty of trouble waiting for him should he start slow again.

Tony Finau

Finau has become a staple of Masters leaderboards in recent years, but the long-hitting 31-year-old has some work left to ensure he's playing Saturday afternoon. Finau fired a 3-under in Round 1 but dropped back with three bogeys over his first seven holes Friday. He recovered a shot with a birdie on No. 8 and faces a 12-footer to get to 2-under for the tournament to start his morning. Finau eagled the par-5 15th on Thursday; with that hole and the reachable 13th still on his Round 2 scorecard, he should be able to qualify for the weekend rather comfortably.
