Haotong Li's mother was only trying to help her son out Thursday at HNA French Open, after the 21-year-old tossed his putter into the water near the par-3 11th green.

Following a bogey on the hole, Li decided he'd had enough of his flatstick, breaking it in two, and then throwing it into the hazard. Almost 20 minutes later, Li's mother ventured into the muddy water to try and retrieve the club - only to realize the putter was on longer fit for competition.

Tyrrell Hatton, Thomas Pieters, and Alex Noren were playing the 11th at the time, and all three had a good laugh on the attempt.
